About this painting

A century ago the mountain church was the center of the social life of a rural community. Couples were married there, departed loved ones were placed in the ground next to family members. The folks around would gather for worship, eating, fellowship, and encouragement when times were hard. Today they are rarely seen and without a coordinated refurbishing effort, most fall into disrepair and they disappear. They seem to hold a lot of memories, though.
