At the Well She Will Meet Jesus

Painting 1/12 in The Redeemed Collection

About this painting

At the Well She Will Meet Jesus is inspired by the moment in John 4 when a Samaritan woman comes to draw water at an unusual hour—midday—hoping to avoid the judgment of others. Her life was marked by shame, failed relationships, and isolation. But unknown to her, Jesus had arranged this exact moment to meet her there, alone at the well.

Rather than depict both figures, I chose to focus entirely on the woman—on her inner world just before the encounter. What did she carry in her heart as she approached the well under the heat of the sun? Could her eyes, heavy with rejection, begin to imagine that today would be any different?

She doesn’t yet know she’s about to meet the Messiah—the One who knows her fully and offers her living water instead of condemnation. This painting captures that pause, that fragile in-between when everything is about to change.
